About The Art... A Unique Use of Glass & Mirror
Textile Design had been the main focus of Karen van Beest's work. It has been a great fascination for her to re-invent uses of various mediums into totally new and different techniques. Her current work is an example of just that.
Using conventional materials — glass and mirror — in unconventional ways, Karen creates a reflective depth that is both elegant and crisp. She has managed to take hard, ungiving elements and bring to them a sense of subtle softness. The combination of depth and light from the mirror creates shadows, illumination and movement.
This technique has developed and evolved over the years and gives the rigid yet sparkling substance of mirror the illusion of form, movement and dimension. The layers of glass and mirror appear to be almost seamless from a distance, yet have an absolute multi-dimensional appearance when viewing them closely. Whether you're seeing layers of leaves, abstract designs, still-life creations or undersea landscapes — these original works of art are truly sensational.
Karen van Beest has won numerous awards for her creative use of glass and mirror. For more information on where her art is displayed and how to purchase a one-of-a-kind design, please visit the schedule & awards page or feel free to send her an email.
